When planning our recent trip to my country of birth, I was searching for a short hike in the Eastern Cape area that we would be visiting and got a tip from a friend to check out the Chokka Trail. I immediately liked what I saw, contacted Esti and things got organized pretty quickly. This turned out to be one of the best experiences I ever had. Good friends joined us and we got to meet wonderful new friends. We were blessed with wonderful weather and a very nice group of fellow hikers.
We met our friends, David and Erika, at the Saint Francis Resort in Cape Saint Francis. Here Eric picked us up and drove as to Oyster Bay where the hike started that same afternoon. We spent the first night in the lovely 'holiday home' style Oyster Bay Beach Lodge where the bearded bearfoot Frikkie looked after us. Here we met our fellow hikers in our group of 8 and it was a quite happy gathering discovering that we had common friends and similar interests.
The first afternoon we hiked along beautiful footpaths along the beach and roaring waves to Thysbaai and back. A bit windy, but good company and wonderful scenery make one forget about the wind and we had a wonderful time.
